Sherlock Holmes: In Theaters 12.25.2009

"Sherlock Holmes" is a 2009 film directed by English director Guy Ritichie. The movie stars Robert Downey, Jr. as the famous character and Jude Law as his reliable sidekick, Dr. John Watson. The film takes place in 1891 and it follows Holmes and Watson as they uncover a conspiracy about the destruction of Britain. Mark Strong plays the villain in the film, Lord Blackwood and nails it to a tee. Rachel McAdams co-stars as Holmes' love interest, Irene Adler, who had once outwitted him and gained his respect. Adler needs Holmes to help her in a case. For the part, Downey lost weight and thought that 1992's "Chaplin" had prepared him for the English accent. His accent in the movie is very good, but at times is hard to understand. The movie really does show you how great of actor Robert Downey, Jr. is. He's unbelievable in the film and is hilarious as well. The movie is more a comedy than anything else. The film is shot very well and I was surprised by the direction by Guy Ritichie. I am not a big fan of Ritichie, but maybe I should be. My advice to you is to see this film more than once because it is very good. "Sherlock Holmes" receives 4 wheelchairs out of 5.
