Alice in Wonderland: Upcoming 3.5.2010

"Alice in Wonderland" is the next film directed by Academy Award nominee Tim Burton (1989's "Batman", 1994's "Ed Wood", and 2007's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"), the film is based on the beloved 1865 novel, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" written by Lewis Carroll. The movie stars relatively unknown Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Academy Award nominee Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter (this is Depp's 7th collaboration with Burton, others being 1990's "Edward Scissorhands", 1994's "Ed Wood", 1999's "Sleepy Hollow", 2005's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", 2005's "Corpse Bride", and 2007's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"), Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit, Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar, Stephen Fry as Cheshire Cat, Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock, Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts, and Michael Gough as Dodo. On an extension on Lewis Carroll's original story, Alice (Mia Wasikowska), now 19, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to by a rich suitor. She runs off, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited many years before, yet she doesn't remember. The White Rabbit (Michael Sheen) claims to have come back for Alice because she is the only one who can slay the Jabberwock (Christopher Lee), the beast who guards the Red Queen's empire. Alice remains completely unaware of why she is in Wonderland, and is confused about the fact that she had once visited Wonderland years before. She then embarks on an adventure of self discovery and to save Wonderland from the Red Queen's reign of terror with the help of her Wonderland friends. The film was written by "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King" screenwriter Linda Woolverton. "Alice in Wonderland" will hit movie theaters on March 5, 2010. I know this is really early, but Johnny Depp is going to win an Oscar for his portrayal of the Mad Hatter. View Trailer Here
