The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: Upcoming 12.25.2009

"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" the last film starring Heath Ledger has recently released its first trailer. The film was co-written and directed by Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam. The film follows Doctor Parnassus who made a deal with the devil for a magical mirror and immortality. After a 1,000 years while Parnassus is running a traveling theatre troupe, the devil returns to collect on the arrangement, the doctor's 16-year old daughter. The troupe is then joined by a mysterious outsider named Tony who travels through parallel worlds to rescue her. The cast includes Christopher Plummer as Doctor Parnassus, musician Tom Waits as the Devil, and Lily Cole playing Parnassus' daughter. The film hit a major snag in production when Ledger passed away one-third through filming, Gilliam's first thought was that the film was over. But determined to salvage the film, Gilliam came up with an interesting idea, every time Tony travels through a different magical realm he will transform his physical appearance. Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law will all play a different version of Tony. The 3 actors also opted to redirect their wages to Matilda Ledger, Heath's daughter. In tribute to Ledger the film won't just be dedicated to him but the opening credits will be altered. Instead of "A Terry Gilliam film" it will read "A film from Heath Ledger and friends". The movie will be released on October 16, 2009 in the UK and December 25, 2009 in the United States. View Trailer Here
