A Serious Man: Upcoming 10.2.2009

"A Serious Man" is an upcoming black comedy written and directed by the Coen brothers. The film is set in St. Louis Park, Minnesota in the year 1967 and the movie is intended to reflect the Coens' childhood as they remember it. The assistant art diector Jeff Schoen said "It's a mental travelogue of 1967, and for me, since I grew up near the Coens in St. Louis Park, it's a childhood story". Besides Richard Kind ("Spin City" and "Mad About You") and Adam Arkin ("Chicago Hope") most of the film's main characters are played by fairly unknown actors. The film will follow Larry Gopnik, a jewish man that goes through many life changes emotionally and spiritually and Richard Kind will play Larry's lazy brother Arthur. This will be their third film in three years the others being 2007's Best Picture winner "No Country for Old Men" and 2008's "Burn After Reading". The film will have a limited release date of October 2, 2009 in the United States and will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
